Coming up, I want to share with you admonetization hacks that you can use toinstantly increase your revenues, whether you’re in gaming or non-gaming.Stay tuned.
What is up, AppNation? It is Steve P.Young from appmasters.com.We are the experts when it comes to allthings app distribution andmonetization. And today, we’re goingto take a look at ad monetization.
Something we don’t normally talk about, but something super important. And I’mgoing to tell you why it’s so important.
And if you’ve got a subscription app,why I think it’s important to thinkabout having an ad-supported model atthe same time.
That’s going to help you even drive moredownloads for your app. So, withoutfurther ado, let’s get started. All right. Here arethe ad monetization hacks. Steal thesestrategies to instantly increase yourrevenues. And if you know anything aboutMe, you know, I like to add value whereyou can see value almost within like a10-minute task. And that’s what thesetactics are going to give you right now.
All right. Here’s why this is soimportant. I know it’s a little bit hardto read, but this is stats fromAppsFlyer, their latest state ofsubscription report, where it’s reallytalking about how apps are now, incertain categories of apps, are startingto generate revenues from ads. And now,the whole net of it is that a blendedmodel, not solely subscriptions, notsolely ads, not solely in-app purchases,it’s really a combination of all of theabove. And that’s what the top apps arestarting to do. And I’m going to show
off some of those top apps later on. So,stay tuned, and you want to watch thewhole video for that. But, I wanted toshare with you the why of admonetization before I got into the howincrease ad monetization, all right? So,the net of it all is more apps areStarting to do more of a blendedapproach to monetization versus purelysubscription, purely in-app purchases, purely just ads, all right? Games andnon-gaming alike. All right, let’s getinto it.
All right, the number onetactic isan easy low-hanging fruit. And this isespecially for those who are Android andseeing way more traction on Android, appopen ads.
So, I’m going to give you guysa scenario. Here’s the splash screen. Here’s the loading screen, and as itloads, you should start loading your ad.So, interstitials, your video ads, it’sa great opportunity to start loadingthem ads so that this app open ad now isshown. Look, it’s super obvious. You getthe most impressions on the open.
For Android users, they typically areokay with seeing an ad versus wanting topay you. And then you can still see thead down here, hit continue the app, andthen you’re at the app homepage. So,what kind of apps are really good forThat? They tend to work well on utilityapps. So, think one-time usage, like, okay, if I have to watch an ad so I canuse this app for free, great. Casualtools, same thing, right?
Here, use it once or twice. Wallpaperapps, duh, cuz you’re probably onlygoing to change a wallpaper, I don’tknow, maybe so often. VPN apps, QRscanners, simple games, and apps withreally short sessions. So, that’s whenyou can start incorporating that becauseif it’s a one-time use type of app, they’re most likely not wanting to payyou. I have this currency converter app. It’s like, do I really want to pay? No,but I do love using the app, and so I’mhappy to watch these app open ads allday long if that’s what they want to do.Now, here’s one of my favoritestrategies. It’s a welcome bonus. Here’s one of our clients, what they dida long time ago. It was a gameand this is loading. It says, “Hey, welcome. Claim your 2,000Coin bonus.” Awesome. Hit claim.
Next, watch a video to double it.Beautiful. Every time we gave away, sowhen AppAdvice was around, but now wehave IndieAppSanta. So, if you wanted todo a promo and say, “Hey, every new usergets 2,000 coins.” This works great forgames. We did it, right? We got a lot ofpeople signing up for this, and then wemade them watch. We didn’t make them, butthey don’t have to. We asked if theywanted to watch a video. Oh my goodness, every time we ran these types ofcampaigns on now the defunct AppAdvice, but now you can use IndieAppSanta. Wesaw an increase in downloads and anincrease in ad revenue. So, you givethis away, they’re more likely to watcha video anyway because they gotsomething for free.
And the best part is, as you’re givingcurrency away, you’re training yourusers to use that money, right? It’slike gift cards. People love gift cards, cuz one, you don’t always use it, andTwo, you end up spending more than theinitial gift card amount. So, that’s thesame philosophy here. Give somethingaway, let them double it by watching anad and just by the sheer act of givingsomething away, they’re probably morelikely to spend it and then hopefullymore likely to buy more coins versus orwatch more videos for coins, thusleading to a more sticky user. Allright.
Daily bonus, obvious. So, I’m going toskip. I’m going to go fast through theobvious ones, okay? Daily bonus, this isFun Run, one of my favorite apps. Youcome into the app, you can see thisreally quickly, right? Before you evenplay. Like, cool, I can watch an ad andget more stars. Or the daily bonus, welcome back.I love this, by the way. So, like dayone, you like, “Yeah, I’m going to getyou this.” I hate those that say, "Yeah,I don’t know what I’m going to get thenext day."Day two, this is 200 coins, day four and day five, right? And youcould spin the wheel and get all this
stuff. So, these are great forretention. Some people love to just spinit, but this is the same philosophy asthe welcome bonus. You’re givingsomething away, you’re rewarding people for coming back,so, you’re training users to come back ona daily basis, and you’re allowing themto just get something a little bit moreby watching a video. So, I love thisstrategy, and I think this is one thatgames and non-gamers should startdeploying, right? Give them a little bitof bonus for building that habit thatyou want them to eventually build.
Another obvious one, watch ad to play.Obvious, right?I’m in the arena.I have enough coins. I don’t have enoughcoins, so I can’t pay,but I can watch an ad to play and getthat. So, that’s an obvious one that aLot of like especially casual tohyper-casual apps are doing tomonetize, right? Continue or end ofround bonus, that’s another obvious one, right? End of round, I die.
Hey, do you want to continue? I thinkBlock Blast did this. You can watch avideo ad and that’ll like reset stuff. So, it’s a great way to get people touse the ad. It’s also a great way toreward people. Hey, you just earn 500coins for finishing this level. Want todouble it by watching an ad? It’s a nicelittle break. They just finished theround anyway, they’re more willing towatch an ad. All right. Now, payattention for this. Like I said duringthe AppsFlyer report, ads forsubscription apps. I’m starting to seethis more and more, right? So, this isone app that we took a look at calledCleanup. It’s a great app. It deletesduplicate photos, and so here’s theonboarding.
And then, I see the paywall. I hit X outOf the paywall, and I’m like, okay, ready to go. I wantto start deleting. They said, “Hey,watch a rewarded ad to delete thesephotos.” So, I’m like, “All right, fine.” So, I’ll watch an ad and then Iget to delete a bit morephotos. So, really great monetizationstrategy for those who are not willingto pay. Look, there’s going to be apercentageof people that will pay you. But, onaverage, 80 to 90% of all your installswill not want to pay you.
Right? So, why not figure out a way, especially for these types of likeutility apps and one-time use types ofapps, especially why not try to monetize them? You spent a bit of money probably toacquire them. So, why not try tomonetize them this way, too? And we’restarting to see like AI generation,“Hey, you know, to generate this thisimage, watch this ad.” So, you see thatHappening a lot in AI apps as well.
Okay, here’s even some more obvious ones. So, hopefully I’m ending, you guys can see this pattern. Ending with more inspirational things like, “Hey, theseother apps are starting to think aboutad models. Maybe you should, too.” Fornon-gaming apps. Gaming apps, I thinkyou guys already know. Non-gaming apps. So, for content apps, right? Spotify, anobvious one. There’s a freemium plan. And if you don’t want to pay theirpremium plan, you’re going to have tolisten to ads, right? So, differentfeatures are locked, but ads aredefinitely part of their monetizationmodel. Here’s the ad. It’s a video ad,so I wanted to kind of show this off aswell. Obviously, if you have a new typeof app, you can always do banner adslike my Yahoo Fantasy. It’s the bestfantasy app by far. And they monetizethrough ads right here. And obviously, Netflix.
Right? So, hopefully this startsinspiring you because you know mostpeople, especially forsubscription-based apps, especially fornon-content apps, you know, most peopledon’t want to pay. So, having some planswhere you have adsis an interesting interesting model. Most people, me included, sometimes I’lljust sign up for the cheaper plan. I’llwatch those, that’s fine. Give me theads. I don’t mind it at all. I’m willingto pay a little bit less. And so, sothese last examples were for you to getinspired and start thinking about ways
that you can incorporate ads into yourapp. All right, last couple of things Iwant to end with. Now, for you indiesout there and especially those biggercompanies, my friend Moyo said it thebest. He said, "Look, I do run ads in mysubscription based apps. Now, most of myrevenues come from subscriptions, butthe money I make from ads, my adrevenue, I use to market my app."Like, "That’s a great way of thinkingabout it, Moyo. You the money you makefrom your ads is your marketing budget.
The bulk of your revenues are going tocome from subscriptions, but you canalways use the money that you make fromyour ads to supplement and helpsubsidize your marketing budget. Allright. Now, here’s how you can monetizeyour apps more effectively. Go check outYango Ads. They help you monetize yourads a lot better and in markets that areseverely undervalued. There are hugeopportunities. So, if you’re trying totarget these underserved, undervaluedmarkets that actually have money, andyou’ve been struggling to monetizeoutside of just the obvious ones, checkout Yango Ads. They have over 30,000 appsalready using it, and you can unlockover 600,000 advertisers, including somemajor brands. Let’s take a look ata case study that’s really, really cool.
And this is the opportunity that YangoAds allows you to do. Like I said,Before, they help you target theseunderserved, undervalued markets, allall right? So, Cents Tech, a US-basedapp publisher, saw new opportunities inthe Russian market after major brandsexited the region. By focusing onorganic growth, localization, andoptimized monetization, the company grewto 250,000monthly active users. So, here’sa bit more about Cents Tech, and you canread about this case study. But, why didyou focus on the Russian market?
Google Adswas no longer there. It exited. So, adrates dropped, and keyword competitionbecame lower. So, with keywordcompetition becoming lower, they decidedto focus on ASO. So, for those who thinkASO is dead, not quite yet, okay? Theyalso localized their app in Russian, andthis is where Yango Ads truly helpedout. With Google Ads, AdMob no longeravailable, they needed a local adsolution. And so, Yango Ads gave themAccess to a large ad ecosystem inpopular local apps, AI-driven adtargeting for better CPM rates, andreliable payouts for a steady revenuestream. After they integrated it, theirmonetization performance improvedsignificantly.
So, really cool stuff there. They’ve gota lot more case studies that you canread on.
