celebrity guests for you guys we’re going to really break down something that we’ve been internally really focused on and that is localization not just from a downloads perspective but also a revenue perspective as well and one of this special celebrity well I won’t bring her in I won’t tell her her name yet but let’s bring her in right now [Music]

bavia welcome to the show how are you hi Steve thanks for having me super excited to have you on bavia bavia is one of the key members one of the leaders in the ATMs community and or the team and she’s done an amazing job with a lot of our high-end clients a lot of our foundation clients too and she’s been really spearheading the charge for our

localization efforts I’ve asked bobia to be get us a much a lot of case studies so we can share it back with the community so I’m super excited to have you on all right bavia should we say hi to a few people too yeah all right let’s do that this is Antonio I think you know these people make me do so much work bavia I hate this irion what’s up and Louise is here as well the mobile growth Hub okay I gotta learn that person’s name and Martin in India thank you Martin for being so easy Super Pump for

this episode I have zero localization yet just us English all right well we’re going to cover all that as well and Joe familiar name as well okay all right bavia where let’s should we get started with this yeah yeah yeah let’s do it okay so we’re going to talk about localization right here and like all things we love a presentation so here we go all right bavia go ahead tell us uh it’s uh the presentation is uh initially it’s mostly about the pricing

localization so uh we recently did the testing uh for pricing localization for tier B and C countries and we saw some spike in mostly in the Ina purchases yeah I like it and you also saw the that ASO wise it helped too yeah okay let’s get into some of the Android stuff as well uh for this app we initially we did

the ASO localization uh especially for the English speaking language uh English US mostly since it’s the generic language u in top five for any of the apps so that’s what we did and then we saw some spike in tier B and C countries and then we do uh then we did the pricing localization yep and then we started to see the spike in subscriptions and we kind of covered this case study as well in Vic’s live

stream that we did a couple of months ago so Vic is here from our team as well giving you support and this is what I really love about what you and VC were able to accomplish on this Bia was just like yeah Android they do pay you know what I mean like it don’t ignore it but this is all Android Revenue growth here as well okay ASO localization here’s how you’re going to do it pay attention right bavia here we go all right go ahead I’m gonna follow your lead here okay tell me go next

yeah uh for this particular app we made the custom so we found one particular keyword in the store analysis and we we saw that they were not using this keyword in the ma mainly title and short description so we just added that keyword and we knew that this is the main keyword that is generating the most of the downloads for them so we ended up creating the custom store listing

uh Steve you’re on mute son of a gun oh my God there’s such good stuff in there bavia oh my God all right zanu let’s cut that out don’t do anything zanu I’m just kidding all right that’s your little break on here sorry guys all right so here we go so this is what bobia was

saying within the Google Play console what you want to do is go to your store analysis right here yeah and then you’re going to find the explore Search terms and Bobby this is where you were able to find the the terms that people were searching for and downloading the app yes and as simple as enough the person our client did not have these keywords optimized in any of the key parts right like you talked about the title short description and so forth

yeah okay and then we also created a custom store listing right Bia is this what is this the trick so talk to me about the difference between like a custom store listing versus like localizing and using the the normal store listing the default store listing and just localizing that change what’s the difference so for default sto default store listing it consists of all the keywords all the featur feates of the

app but for the custom store listing uh we focus we uh there are two types of custom store listings it’s we can focus on the keyword and the country so what we did was we focused on the keyword we just added the main keyword to the uh title short description long description and also the first screenshot of the app did you already did you already have that screenshot bavia and all you had to do is move it or did you create a new screenshot uh we just moved it okay

perfect easy enough right these are like simple things that you literally can get done while you’re watching this live stream as well okay all right bobia let me see what’s next first before we let me take a sneak peek and then we’ll go all right here we go we got a good summary of everything you need to do so here you go here Bob you want to just summarize real quick yeah uh go to the store analysis and uh you will find the explored Search terms just tap on

that and you can see the main keywords that you’re getting the downloads from and this then you can just add those keywords in the title short description and long description also try adding adding those keywords in the screenshots as well y I like it I like it maybe and I put app icon as maybe because Bobby and I when we put this together I was like maybe you want to put app icon maybe not I have seen other places where app icons with the country flag flag bavia maybe that might work a

little bit better because everybody feels more at home when they see their flag and so that might be something that’s why I put the maybe but definitely get to the title and subtitle and reorganize your screenshots cool and the cool thing what I wanted to talk show you here too bavia was in this store listings this is a new thing from Google this is another client of ours and this is one of our bigger clients because I really wanted to separate right here between I know the Google Play console Bia there’s what is it called search is it the BR direct

Search terms or what’s the other one on the left it’s Search terms and explored Search terms okay the Search terms because the Search terms what Bobby and I discovered that’s going to be on left hand if you’re in your Google console is more branded terms whereas these explore terms tend to be more generic terms and so I wanted uh this is one of our smaller clients where we’ve seen this this much success but I pulled it from a bigger client and what they what I saw for this bigger client was they were saying hey you Gemini Ai and create a

custom store listing for this keyword because you’re getting a lot of searches for these keywords so Google’s almost make doing a lot of the work for you if you are a bigger brand and you’ve got some really good traffic Google’s out actually suggesting the same things for us and using Ai and Bobby when we looked at it yesterday it was not too bad I would have probably most of it yeah okay let’s go into the pricing localization here uh so this is the uh

calculated that one of our teammate P came up with and we just made few changes looking at this calculator and we started to see some spike in subscriptions yep so you can use this this is this we’re Vic no offense we’re trying to validate Vic’s numbers too and Vic it’s a nice one and I love this calculator I love any calculator here too we’ll kind of talk about what like what we’re changing and give you but just by using this calculator bavia we

were able to achieve success here for this client right yeah okay and then mainly I mean the thing about this calculator that I found too was especially if you’re targeting Australia or the UK If you have $50 in the US make it $50 dollar 50 Euros or 50 Australian dollars because it tends to go up a little bit in the other countries I think 50 to 50 is UK but I know in Australia definitely 50 US is like 80

Australian you just want to bump that down to 50 that seems to be a best practice there but we’re for these other countries we’re still trying to figure this out but we want to show you some case studies so it did work but keep in mind that we’re going to show you some other case studies too all right here we go uh so this is again for the Android and we made the changes uh this is this screenshot is for the UK uh we made the changes in UK pricing and we started to see some spike

and this was doing the price changing the prices around for those countries yep love it yeah same with Australia mhm yeah and same with South Africa wow and India India went from $11 to $143 that’s insane love it Canada okay now let’s go iOS because

this is the tricky one so maybe VC you’re here put in the comments is this is this spreadsheet is it primarily for Android or is it better for iOS so put that in the comments below because obviously it worked out very very very well for Android right it went from $36 in the UK to and we were getting more downloads too bavia here for the yeah we initially we did the localization for English us and English UK and then we then we just did the pricing localization yeah so started with top of the funnel to get more downloads and

then you started with the bottom of the funnel to change the pricing round too all right cool let’s talk about iOS now back to the spr sprad sheeet that we use for another client in this iOS look we want to be nothing but transparent here for you guys as well so this the same using the same spreadsheet here’s what happened on iOS uh we made the changes for this particular app on 15th January and soon after we started to see the spike in in a purchases yeah went from like it’s

almost 4X guys if you’re not paying attention went from 100 per week to about 400 per week after we changed the pricing around yeah and it’s in our purchases over total downloads the total downloads number was almost stable but the inapp purchases kept in increasing after localization yep and this is just for us to show you guys like hey this is working the number of inapp purchases went up but also as in that purchases

over tottal downloads as a ratio that went up as well the conversion rate so this is just to show you that you know the conversion rate up because you can be like hey look got more downloads too all right here’s the pricing stuff uh so this is for India and before localization it was 500 almost 500 uh bucks and after the localization it went to 650 bucks yep like it whoops go back to our layout right

here then inap purchases India that this is the insane number faia yeah it it we it was very high in the yeah so so we went from 13 in app purchases for this you know the prior period and then we went all the way up to 257 in our purchases so there is willingness to pay you just have to figure out the price to for the willingness to pay and I know people are saying thanks to vivec so Vic did say

that this spreadsheet does work for both iOS we only have this available for our clients primarily and this is why I’ve sort of gave you just a few countries here but VC has it for every single country and you can use it the but it’s available to our clients and then we did make it available to our ATMs Academy as well so but we have been playing around with this too so Bobby I’m gonna let you finish this and then we’ll talk about like what we discovered from this because this is interesting right you might be saying hey you got this more this is almost like a hundred times more

in our purchases but why didn’t the revenues go as high as you know the hundred times and we kind of break down that maybe the spreadsheet Vic is too low for India we’ll be we’re playing around with that too okay but it’s a good starting point that’s what we’re trying to show you it’s a good starting point Russia oh yeah and we did the same with Russia uh the difference isn’t much uh in the sales but if you see the in our purchases it

went High Yeah it it it may be due to the currency difference since uh USD is way higher than other countries especially for tier 2 and TLC countries so that might be the reason that uh we placed the pricing very low and people started to buy but it was it wasn’t The Sweet Spot that we want the pricing to be yeah

uh is there anything here go ahead bavia no for it’s basically we need to analyze what is the capacity spending capacity of the particular country how much a user can afford to pay for particular uh particular time period yeah and that is sorry I’m going to pull it back up here that is what we found too and so I’m going to pull up this crazy spreadsheet I love numbers I hope that talking to

one client he’s like Steve your YouTube is boring you have spreadsheets and presentations I’m like uh I find that actually fun okay so I hope you guys do as well but here’s the the localization spreadsheet analysis that bavia and I kind of put together and I want to kind of show off for you guys just to give you the details of it so I’m going to share this really quick so this is the spreadsheet that we have and here’s the country countes and we have it for all

the countries so thank you VC for putting this all together but that is it here’s what we found and so I wanted to really highlight this and I’ll kind of pull this up for you guys but when we made those changes we saw the conversion rate increase it’s almost 11% in February but our sales per download was pretty much the same and so this is like our average order size is what I was pulling it so these are all formulas right and I was just trying to do quick back of the napkin math meaning here’s how many many downloads We got here’s how many sales

we got for through App Store connect here’s how many inapp purchases we got back to bia’s point about all the inapp purchases here right and then we kind of tallied some numbers together and so what we found was that yes less people are buying but we made more money off of every person buying so we’re find trying to find the sweet spot with this average order size and this conversion and try to figure out like okay can we get from $400 to $1,000 a month and this was our goal and this is sort of the way we analyzed it

we’re like okay well I think we could probably get to 4% because this what we did right Bob came up here and I was like okay how do we get to $1,500 so we kind of made a gut call that we probably have to be close to that $20 Mark average order size to get us to mostly about close to a dollar per sale and so since then we’ve kind of changed our numbers around to try to get a $20 average amount because what we found was VE maybe this is great on iOS or on

Android but on goog on iOS that I think the spending power in these countries might be a little bit higher than what we originally thought so real transparent data bobia okay we love the spreadsheet thank you guys I know I do too okay all right bobia got some questions okay Arion says when doing ASO keywords do you have to do it twice once for Apple and Google or they the same it’s it’s different uh for both but

the keywords are mostly similar since the app the features that the app has are similar so the traffic might be different on both the platforms but the fe uh keywords are mostly similar yeah and so Arion you want to put the Android data and the iOS data because sometimes the traffic scores might be a little bit different but for the most part you you want to do both thank you babia what about localization

between US and Canada should that be the same pricing I think you will have to test it out if you are getting enough uh revenue from Canada I would say that do the ab test not uh not change the pricing completely yeah I like it and according to vix spreadsheet it is just put at the same price so if Apple puts you a little bit higher if you’re charging 50 bucks

in the US just make sure it’s 50 Canadian dollars as well so just try to keep that the same that’s what seems to be the trend with vivx spreadsheet and it does work it the with doing that like for all the english- speaking countries US Canada UK Australia just match the price whatever you’re charging in the US okay cool what’s up aie good to see you oh it might be the same ay okay I just made that is it is it the same War I just talked to just made that calculation all

right bavia let’s get into now guys we don’t have any data on this yet we’re hoping that this is going to be the way to do it because obviously for us and why wanted to do this a little bit earlier because the feedback I heard from the audience B was like share us the things you’re testing too right like because sometimes I wait I want to make sure it works before I share it with you guys but now I’m like okay fine we’re going to test it all together and as a community you guys we’re going to try to figure this out so here’s what Bobby and I came up with she we KN noticed that

hey this spreadsheet Vivic spreadsheet great starting point it works all right cool don’t go H this is ours okay people ask you on LinkedIn don’t you dare give it away all right all right the So based off of that we’re were like oh we’re trying to find the fine balance between the two right we we didn’t get as much sales as we have like given the amount of people that actually started a trial here and activated stuff and so

we’re like okay let’s try a different way so we’re going to try a different way with this philosophy and we’ll come back maybe it’ll be a shorter video to kind of break down how this worked out for us all right bavia here we go ready you leave this I’ll follow for this we use sensor tar uh we went into the marketing market analysis and we searched for the particular category that we want want want our app to localize in and then we looked into

the top grossing apps yep right here uh we found a similar app then we just go into the inapp purchases or sorry inapp pricing that they have currently and if the if they have the same pricing that our app has like if they have weekly plans yearly then we just uh try to copy or make minor changes not the not major

ones Y and we’re our philosophy our thought process is we’ve picked the country we’re localizing for we picked the right category we picked a similar app and we’re pulling data from Top gross scene in that particular country too and so we think the math should better math because when we looked at the data bobia I think this was like a lot higher than what we originally had for one of our apps too and like Bob

said we’re looking for apps that have similar pricing structures meaning like if you are finding that Weekly is performing well for you try to find an app that has weekly in there as well and that performs well for them as well that way you can be safe like you know you can kind of gauge because pricing is so hard guys and this is for me like why I like to break this down into things that you can follow is because it be becomes so hard and hopefully we can put together a spreadsheet like this that is iron plaid

and it’s going to work for most apps but until then I’m trying to break down and find a process that works for all of us that is easily replicable as well okay cool and then bavia the other thing I wanted to point out too was if you are there so we we pick cleanup and if you are there you can see that when you’re in Center Tower you might as well look up and just see what other countries they’re doing well in and it looks like it’s Brazil so you can just change the country right here to Brazil and then grab the Brazilian localization as well

and if it’s a similar app to yours you know you can kind of get inspiration that hey it’s us Brazil and UK surprising okay good so let me go to Brazil let me figure out what that pricing structure should be as well okay cool vexa is good he’s a he’s a good guy okay she is secure with him all right Bob anything I missed that you want to make sure we cover on the localization front uh I think that is it uh on the

custom store listing I missed adding uh that it doesn’t works for the niche apps oh interesting why what do you think that is bavia the keywords are very very limited for the app and also there are very few keywords with a high traffic I see but and then you you’re kind of using data too right so oh the other thing that bavia you were saying was you would with a custom store

listing once you have it placed you do go in there and add new keywords as well yeah yeah we’ll have to look for more keywords revolving around the uh around that particular feature that we have created the custom Ro listing and we need to keep adding those keywords to that yeah and well we can break it down and maybe we do it in the academy or not but like it is in the cuz it’s hard for us like we don’t want to reveal our client stuff and that’s why we’re taking

all this out but anyways what we’re trying to show you is there in the custom sore listing there’s like a keywords thing and then like say meditation Google will tell you more stuff and you can add these keywords to the list of keyw it’s essentially you add new keywords that belong to this custom store listing so if people search meditation you have that custom store listing and then next month you add meditation mindfulness so when people search for meditation mindfulness your custom store listing shows up for that particular ter that’s what we’re trying to say right bavia or no yeah okay

perfect all right got some questions from Abdul if I remember Orie okay wrong Orie sorry Abdul is it recommended to localize keywords too for if you’re localizing for a country I think yes uh because the people for in different countries use especially prefer their own language their native language and and that’s the reason you should localize for keywords

as well yep and I can show off yes Abdul so the the easy answer is yes and I’ll show off a my favorite way to do it is there’s a couple of ways to do it so you can use app follow which is what I’ve been recommending to most people when it works right so you just go into any tool and app radar is pretty good at this too now they’ve changed a few things but you can go let’s say Brazil right and put whatever keyword you want to

Target you click this little ah it used to be here maybe because we can’t advertise in Brazil yet let’s say Germany okay and then you can see that you know cm is now has some ASO and then you click this little I icon and it should give you all the German localizations German keywords as well so that’s s of how we start doing ASO keyword research when we’re localizing for different markets

too let’s see got another question when you find keywords when you find keywords do you just translate them from ones that worked in English or do you do keyword research for all countries we usually do keyword research for all countries it doesn’t Works thatly yep just like we did right here so Arion we we do it like this too just to make sure because most time it’s true

but then you’ll get stuff like this which I think this is mental health tracker what do you think B you German to English sleep tracker all right there you go so and this is probably sleep sleep sleep but they call meditation meditation so there’s no I wonder if meditation is different meditation nope it’s meditation all right that’s that’s funny okay cool let’s see so if you guys got any

I’m GNA assume it’s Yan’s email app and bavia I would like to see the app downloaded and used more wouldn’t we all in fact hardly anyone downloads it but it is true that out of about five installs in three months one bought it for a month I’d like to have more people interested in this okay by so it’s an app that allows you to learn I’m assuming German Spanish and English and what do you got for an ASO standpoint here uh if it in does it includes

vocabulary and uh maybe we can add uh keywords related I didn’t see anything related to learn or read uh in the title or subtitle anywhere maybe we can go after those keywords the longtail keywords or something related to vocab yep I love it I love it and Y I don’t know where you’re based but what I would do is if it’s German Spanish like

Target other countries so I’m sure learn German has keyword search traffic in Germany like just for kids too or you know people who came to Germany or and don’t speak German but they’re in Germany so maybe Target that spot and then a follow is not working right now but then localize for that market because you can see learn German not too bad I’m going to click on this link actually let’s click on the first one yeah let’s see what

happens and these are some of the keywords that you can Target I’m goingon to assume this is learned German German to yep so there you go and you can then now you can see what’s this B what do you think this is deras oh okay look at that look at me learning German so use these keywords use these keywords put them in

your title go after these because it is one of the hard things to do like any business to get it off and running so you have this but this is not the right keywords it’s learn ditch Dutch you don’t have that in here so go after that keyword Yan yeah it’s right I think he is German let’s see let’s let’s put it in Spanish Let’s see if he has it Spanish yeah he does Maybe Spanish who knows okay what else on the ASO front

babia you want to talk about oh maybe in the screenshots uh in the second or third screenshot we can have uh other features uh that the app offers apart from these the stats and all learning related learning or read reading related features yeah oh I love that idea Bia so like let’s I like taking ideas and then just making them

applicable so like using let’s say du lingo and seeing what features they have up here right and then being like okay well du lingo is talking about this this is my unique way of learning German so you say because right now it’s not even like learn read practice but just put German learn German right like that’s you’re in Germany learn German just focus on that keyword in that regard and then look at what other people are saying and see how you can be different from them too or the

definitely want to show your onboarding have some onboarding have a freaking button somewhere on that screen where it says what I want to learn and what I already know and then show this pay wall and dude watch some videos of mine because this pay wall is nasty it’s not good it’s not good it’s very bad and you definitely don’t want to just charge $1.99 a month because in the US especially in the US we’re going to think this is a crap product because you’re only charging me two bucks to learn a new language where other apps are charging me you know 10 20 bucks a

month then I prioritize quality with price so there’s a lot that you got to do watch a lot of videos I would say the latest one with the tiny pay walls watch that or onboarding best practices but you got a long way to go my friend all right Bobby I was you be the nice person that was Simon cow you be Paula please for American Idol of years owners that reference give him some good sub or you want to be harder you want to be more what’s your feedback on this app

Mia uh I think on the onboarding yes definitely show off uh show off your features uh why the user has downloaded the app and the U since revenue is the main thing that everyone is building the app so why not show off your pay W as well after the unboarding and have some different pricing structure love it

overall let’s give him some good let’s give him some good stuff Yan’s like unsub unsub dislike video so Yan look I like the category you know I think what you can also try to clean this up a little bit but I guess these are books that I can read in I’m assuming Spanish so I don’t know sometimes I’m like it’s too crowded I don’t know what to do right here I I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be doing right

people especially those who are not working with us anymore because who are not working with us or just interested in working with us if there’s gener do you think there’s potential what do you think bavia for this app uh I think yes most of the users are leaning towards Fitness but uh since the app is more about burning calories and losing weight I don’t think that you should go after the high difficulty

keywords like Fitness you won’t be able to rank on those there are big players already ranking there and you won’t be able to beat them U organically maybe go after the keywords that are highly related to burning calories yep you know Rafa like the way I answer this is look this is my favorite way of answering these things if you had told me right now I don’t if it is it does it have potential are

there apps in the space that already making money then there’s obviously potential you just have to find your own way and if you had told me that I would get into a stranger’s car have them drive me someplace or even drive me home and I’d be okay with it I would think that’s the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard but Uber lift all exists right and so I don’t try to think about whether your idea is good I just try to figure out if it try to find product Market fit and bavia said it best find the niche

keywords in these fitness category there’s a lot of tracker keywords that are interesting that you guys might be ignoring and so really do ASO keyword research and what I would say is there’s that growth hack that I love which does require you giving away either your remove ads which I don’t know what it is yet or your one app per one time in purchase away for free through app advice appson free that is my favorite way to see if I can make this app grow

on its own without really a lot of paid marketing and marketing effort too that’s why I love that campaign because you can just run it for free you’re giving up potential revenues but if people are resonating with the app you’ll get emails from people being like I love this app you know can you add this feature and that’s what you’re hoping for too and if you get more downloads we did 100,000 downloads for a client of ours because he hit on a nerve he’s like people wanted his app right that’s a way to sort of thinking through
